Letreros graciosos/funny signs

Letreros graciosos/funny signs

Postby Yesero (Gary) » Wed Jul 04, 2012 8:03 pm

Cada semana paso un letrero que siempre tiene una frase graciosa. Por qué no compartirla con todos aquí y quizás podréis añadir más frases. :check:

La frase primera frase:
Si no se paga tu exorcista ¿está adjudicado?

Supposed to say:If you don't pay your exorcist do you get repossessed?

OK so aside from the bad grammar I suppose the humor is lost in translation but you can't blame me for trying.

Add your own and don't forget to try to translate the signs. All idioms welcome! (Make a search for the correct translation ;) )

There is a word commonly used in Spanish -speaking countries that is being used a direct translation for "repossessed". It is not listed in the DRAE, but it is used widely and often enough that I figure you can take the liberty to use it. Using that word, the pun works perfectly well in Spanish. Having said that, why not give it a shot at fixing up your translation a bit? I bet you can do better just by thinking about it a bit more! Added the missing plural "s" to your title. - Gekkosan

Thanks Gekko, I've given it a lot of thought already, much more than should be necessary. I'm afraid you would lose your bet. :beh:

If you know of any funny signs post them here.
Please feel free to make any corrections to my posts in Spanish or even in my English. No one is perfect.

This was a sign I saw in a Spanish church during a baptism. It struck me as rather funny because it was so noisy with everyone talking at the top of their voices and walking round taking photos that I couldn't hear the priest!

Es típico ¿verdad? Gracias Caza

Maybe a lawyer was behind recommending the placement of this sign...

Reduzca la velocidad, niños jugando. But, the way that it's worded in English, it seems like the sign says "Niños lentos jugando" o "Niños de pocas luces jugando."

These signs are everywhere around here and I always chuckle a little when I see them.

Thanks Holly, I agree, I've always looked at those with the same thought.

Corrections: "Si no le pagas a tu exorcista....

Here's the tricky bit: "repossessed". The DRAE does not recognize "reposeer" or "reposeído", however, people in Spanish speaking countries do use these terms, so using that word it works perfectly in Spanish too:

"Si no le pagas a tu exorcista, ¿serás reposeído?"

Thanks Gekko, I was totally confused by this one.~yesero
