Descontar - Verb - To discount

En el contexto de abajo ¿son amigos falsos? "descontar" y "discount"?

discount
a. To disregard or doubt (something) as being exaggerated or untrustworthy: discount a rumor.


descontar
Dar por cierto o por acaecido aquello de lo que se trata:
se organizó la fiesta descontando que vendrías.


Me parece que discount lleva la connotación de dudar o "no tener en cuenta" (ignorar) mientras que descontar lleva la connotación de "dar por sentado" o "dar por hecho"! (accept as fact) ¿Son antónimos en este contexto?

Hay algunos gastos profesionales que se podrán descontar del impuestos.

There are some professional expenses that can be deducted from taxes.
Why did you use the future tense of "poder" to mean "can be"? (de los impuestos).   qfreed
