Había ganado cinco reales y un perro grande.

Postby RabbitWho » Thu Apr 20, 2017 3:33 pm

Retirose a su zahurda el pobre Juan, pesaroso, porque tenía buen corazón, de haber comprometido por un instante la paz intestina y dado pie para una intervención del poder ejecutivo. Había ganado cinco reales y un perro grande.

This entire paragraph confuses me. Here goes.

Poor Juan went back to his shack.. let me change it a little just to make it sound nicer

Having returned to his shack, poor Juan was heavy-hearted (because it was a good heart) that he had momentarily compromised the intestinal peace and forced executive power to intervene. He had earned five reales and a big dog.

Intestinal peace.. big dog...

Perra chica was a well known very old coin...so I guess that "perro grande" was, too.

5 céntimos o perra chica, la perra gorda (10 cts) tenía iguales anverso y reverso, cambiando solo el valor facial y su tamaño.

his intestinal peace...he was worried and upset...I guess he might even have **** himself :D
I appreciate all English corrections, especially on style! :)

He returned to his shack, heavy hearted , as he had a good heart, because his stomach was upset due to the fact that the "police" had had to intervene. He had earned five reales and one perra gorda.

It says further on or before, can't remember, that he never wanted to upset anybody, always do everything legal and without bothering anybody, especially not the "police force". So he was duly upset because this is what had happened.
